What a wonderful world

I've discovered a wonderful new program the other day thanks to my cousin Janice. It's called PhotoStory and it's by Microsoft. I downloaded it for free at www.microsoft.com/photostory , but make sure you have a legal version of windows before trying this. You have to let Microsoft confirm your version is legal before they'll let you download this.
Anyway, it's basically like a stripped down version of Powerpoint in that you put pictures, music and transitions for your pics in the presentation. You can't do all the fancy stuff that you can with PowerPoint, but since it's meant more for photographs instead of office presentations it works just fine... and for a free program it's GREAT!
The first one has a bunch of pictures of Olivia and Rachel done to What a Wonderful World by Louie Armstrong. They're done in chronological order, so it's kind of showing Olivia growing from baby to big sister, and HER new baby Rachel!
The second is just of Olivia and though some of the pictures are repeated, some are new.The song with this one is Sweet Child o' Mine by Sheryl Crow. Although some purists don't like her version of the song, I think it fits kids pictures MUCH better than the Guns 'n' Roses original version.
Click on the images below (it'll open a new window) to see their PhotoStories!

Links to songs and quotes!

I forgot to mention that I've recently set up my own putfile.com account for media storage... I've uploaded all the songs and movie quotes that I've posted about recently.

I've also edited all the older posts to include links to these songs. So, if you go back through the older posts called "Rock Star", "Hollywood or Bust..." (about American Idol) and "Favourite Movie quote?", you'll see that the songs and quotes are all linked to my putfile uploads.

You can listen to all the songs I was talking about. I even managed to find the sound clips online for the princess bride quotes I was talking about and have links to those as well, so you can now hear Mandy Patinkin saying his infamous line "Hello, My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father, prepare to die!" lol. I LOVE IT!!

Hollywood or Bust...

In honour of the newest season of American Idol the question today is:
If you were trying out for American Idol, would you be going to Hollywood or would they laugh in your face as they booted you out the door?

And most importantly, what song would you sing in our audition?

I'd definitely be booted out. I'm pretty much tone deaf when it comes to my own singing. Which sucks because I LOVE to sing. For song choice, this week I'd probably choose 'Sinnerman' by Nina Simone. It's one of the songs that I've been playing over and over lately... By next week I'll probably have a different answer.

Some other options would be:
- 'Dream On' by Aerosmith (If I could hit those super high notes near the end)
- 'Moondance' by Van Morrison
- 'Rhiannon' or 'Dreams' by Fleetwood Mac...
- 'Unsuccessfully Coping with the Natural Beauty of Infidelity' by Type O Negative. That way I'd know that I wouldn't get made fun of on TV since they couldn't air me singing that song...

(For those that don't know it the chorus is "I Know you're F***ing someone else!!!" Over and over again... It also includes the Lead singer calling his ex-girlfriend a "B*tch, Sl*t, C*nt and Who*e" several times... There's no way I'd get aired singing that one. They'd have to bleep more than they could show! lol)

There's also a song by Keltic Cowboys called 'Kiss My Irish Ass' that might be a good option to sing to Simon as they laughed me out the door. lol I originally thought it was by Great Big Sea, because the person who emailed it to me had it labeled as being by them, but I've recently gotten a comment from the lead singer of Keltic Cowboys -- Frank Mackey. He's informed me of my error. My appologies to Frank and the rest of the group for getting this wrong in the first place! Now that I've listened to it again with this in mind, it sounds nothing like Alan Doyle singing... which I should have noticed before, but didn't. Still, it is a GREAT song!!

What about you?? What would you sing and would you get to Hollywood? (or in the case of Canadian Idol would you get to Toronto?)

Rock Star

In honour of the fact that I just heard the other day that the new season of Rockstar is confirmed (though they won't confirm the band they signed for it) I have a new question for you:

You are auditioning for the TV show RockStar, what band (dead or alive) are you hoping to become the lead singer for? Don't worry whether the lead singer is still with the band or not... this is just fantasy anyway. But it DOES have to be a BAND... you can't be lead singer for an individual "singer"... that means that Care can't pick Joni Mitchell or Van Morrison. (lol)

I'd honestly have to go with either the Doors or possibly Queen on this one, but I honestly don't think a woman lead singer would work for either of them... Can you hear a chick singing 'Backdoor Man' by the Doors?? or 'Fat Botomed Girls' by Queen?? Not me! (for example)

Small piece of the lyrics from the Doors song 'Back Door Man'
You men eat your dinner
Eat your pork and beans
I eat more chicken Than any man ever seen, yeah, yeah
I'm a back door man, wha
The men don't know
But the little girls understand

Maybe I just have a dirty mind... but I see that as a very sexual song... Then again I doubt I'm too far off from what I've heard and read about Jim Morrison... Most of his songs were about Sex, Drugs or Death and I don't see ANYTHING relating to Drugs or Death in those lyrics. (lol)

Now, on to Queen's 'Fat Bottomed Girls'.

NOTE: This is most of the lyrics that I found online but I did take out some of the repetitive parts (like the repeating chorus) of the song since this isn't being posted to sing along to... but rather to illustrate my point.

Are you gonna take me home tonight ?
Ah down beside that red firelight
Are you gonna let it all hang out ?
Fat bottomed girls you make the rockin' world go round

Hey I was just a skinny lad
Never knew no good from bad
But I knew life before I left my nursery
Left alone with big fat Fanny
She was such a naughty nanny
Hey big woman you made a bad boy out of me

I've been singing with my band
Across the wire across the land
I seen every blue eyed floozy on the way
But their beauty and their style
Went kind of smooth after a while
Take me to them dirty ladies everytime

Hey listen here
Now I got mortgages on homes
I got stiffness in ma' bones
Ain't no beauty Queens in this locality
Oh but I still get my pleasure
Still get my greatest treasure
Hey big woman you gonna make a big man out of me

Like I said, I can't see any woman singing those songs and you can't just delete them from the song lists or anything...

Back to the TV Show Rockstar... I heard that they are throwing around two band names that might be the band for the show... either Queen or Van Halen. Either would be amazing!

Some (but not all) blinkies adopted from:

Others found randomly around the net and put here to use for my own nefarious purposes! Muahahahaha. (*J/K*)
