Hospital Visit

Well, For those who mom emailed, and I'm sure that's most of you who read this, you probably know that I had a short hospital visit this weekend. Saturday night (or Sunday morning, depending on how you look at it) around 3 am I woke up with pains in my abdomen. At first I thought it was pretty severe "bathroom" pains, if you know what I mean, but that wasn't it. I tried sitting up for a while, thinking that it was the laying down position that was hurting so bad, but they never went away and just kept getting worse.

I got Jason to call mom to come over to watch Olivia for the night and we ended up heading to the hospital, me in the Ambulance (just in case) and Jason following close behind. The pains were REALLY bad, and I wasn't sure if they were contractions or pains related to my ovarian cysts. They felt like contractions in how they came on strong and slacked off every few minutes, but they only occured on the right side of my abdomen, which isn't likely with contractions, but is how they felt when I had them back in November and found out about my cysts.

Of course, just like any time I have anything wrong, the pains quit about 10 minutes before we got to the Hospital, so when we arrived, they couldn't really tell what HAD been going on, but could only see what was happening at the time. They were quickly pretty sure that it wasn't labour since I wasn't having any contractions, and had it been labour, it wouldn't have stopped cold like that. So we waited around, me strapped to the fetal monitor from around 5 am untill 7 am before I saw a doctor. She was delivering a baby when I came in and since my pains had stopped and I wasn't in labour, I was considered lower profile, so the nurses waited till she was done before they brought her in.

Anyway, she seemed to think that it might be related to the cysts, but of course they can't be 100% sure on that, becasue they can't do any of the normal tests to check because of the pregancy. (X-rays etc) Anyway, she was poking around near the top of my uterus, where my ovaries are, which btw is pretty high right now, and whenever she poked them it caused severe pain in my lower right abdomen. Which, if you remember, is where all my pain had been earlier. This, of course, agrivated it again and the pains started coming back worse than ever. This kind of confirmed the idea that it was 'referred pain' from the cysts, since an apendix pain or other pains wouldn't normally be aggrivated by poking anywhere in that region.

So she figured that most likely they'd just keep me around for observation for a while and see if there were any changes, and if the pains continued getting worse, they would possibly operate to remove the cysts now, but if the pains went away and didn't come back for a while, they'd just let me be until after the baby is born. The operation is not VERY risky to either me or the baby, but it can cause pre-term labour so they didn't want to do it if they didn't HAVE to...

I ended up calling for some help around 8:30 am because the pains had become so bad and the new doctor (shift change was at 8) had the nurse give me some "new morphine" for the pain... It's the same drug they gave me when I was in labour with Olivia, at least before I asked for the Epidural. *lol* So I spent the next hour and a half stoned outta my tree while Jason sat in a chair trying not to fall asleep.

Around 10:30 or so they said that they were going to admit me for the night for observation and moved me to my room. I was lucky that they were feeling nice, because they even let me have a semi-private room at no cost since our crappy Irving medical plan only covers a ward and the cost is $65/day to upgrade to a semi-private. Being in a ward with 3 other mothers and their babies when you don't have one of your own to occupy you would have REALLY sucked. Luckily for me the new mother I was with was pretty nice and we talked half the night once Jason and her family left for the evening.

Anyway, I eneded up getting a few more shots to manage the pain during the day, but after my shot at 7 pm, I was done with them... By this morning the pains had completely gone. There wasn't even a twinge from time to time like there had been through the night. So, this morning when the doctor made his rounds he discharged me, and basically said the same as the earlier doctors said. Because of the chances of preterm labour, they don't want to do anything at this time unless they absolutely have to... basically if the pains come back, I should come back to the hospital immediately and they'll re-evaluate the situation again, but if they don't then they'll look at removing the cysts after the baby is born when there is less risk to her.

So, that's my story for today... How was your weekend? Hopefuly better than mine!

Retail Store?

I just realized that I haven't done a question of the day in a while. Here's one that I liked.

If you could open your own retail store, what type of merchandise would you sell?

I think that I'd either start a craft store with Scrapbooking and Cross stitching supplies etc. There are none in Fredericton anymore. Trimmings closed down last year and Lewiscraft is closing down now. I'd probably try to open a Michaels. That store is AWESOME!

My second choice would be a Bridal store or Maternity store that focuses on Plus sized Brides and Mothers-to-be. I had such a hard time finding a wedding dress when I was getting married. I couldn't try on any of the dresses. You could only look at them and imagine what they would look like on, but if you can't try them on, you could end up with a dress you absolutely love but it looks horrible on you. I would have had to order a dress without ever seeing it on myself...

And both times I've been pregnant I've had such a hard time finding nice maternity clothes that fit... Apparently, unless you're a size 14 or smaller, you don't get pregnant... at least according to the Maternity clothes industry, because no one seems to make any nice clothes for anything larger than that! Discrimination I say!

How about you? What would you open for a store. Remember, this is just imagination so don't worry about whether that store would get any business in your area or not... After all I want to open a craft store when two of them have failed in the past year in my area! Obviously wouldn't be the smartest move ever! But this isn't real, so it doesn't matter anyway, does it?! *lol*

My Little Sleeping Beauty

After supper I went to the bathroom for a few minutes and Jason was on the phone, so Olivia was left sitting on the rocking chair watching a favourite TV show of hers. I came out about and went to the kitchen for a few minutes before I went back into the Living room to see how she was making out. See what I found!

The rocking chair was turned away from Jason so he thought she was just laying there watching TV. Since this is a normal position for her, I can't blame him for not noticing.

Normally her bedtime is 8pm, but since it was already 7:15 I just took her upstairs and put her to bed. She woke up for a minute or two when I was changing her diaper and getting her PJ's on, She asked to go back downstairs but she was asleep before I finished 2 pages in her favourite "princess book".

Here are a few more pics. The close ups!

Visiting Grammy and Papa's Cows

Here are a few pictures from yesterday when we went to visit "Grammy and Papa". They've got some new baby cows and we went to see them. You can also see that Grammy got her hair cut off. I really like it Mom!

Here are a few pictures of the new cows. The first one is little Hannah the Heifer having a sip, and the second is Porkchop the Bull. (strange name for a cow if you ask me... I would have gone with something like "Hamburger Helper" or something like that.)

Dontcha Wish Your Boyfriend Was Hot Like Me?!

Mom sent me this picture today as a joke.
The Caption read "Don't ya wish your boyfriend was hot like me."

All I can say is This must be where Alf's jean shorts went when he FINALLY got rid of them!! Good to know they're still being put to use! *wink*

My Little Artist!

I was online earlier today while Olivia was playing in the living room and I noticed that she was being suspiciously quiet... I went to check on her and...

See what I found...

Here's a close-up picture of her artwork!

Luckily it was done with "beginner" crayons that wash off the walls VERY easily! It only took about 30 seconds to clean it off, and the paint is none the worse for it, so I guess no harm done.

(in case you don't know, you can click on the picture to see a larger version of it)

Rachel, Sohpie and Ava... OH MY!!

Well, the inevitable has happened. I've decided that I don't really like the name Rachel anymore. lol... I knew that would happen sooner or later.

For some reason this baby's name isn't presenting itself to us the way Olivia's did. With Olivia, I was talking to my cousin Janice and we were discussing baby names. (She was pregnant with her 2nd, Jenna, at the same time I was pregnant with Olivia.) She said how much she liked the name Olivia, but her brother in law has a daughter named Olivia, so she couldn't use it... I said that I liked it too, but had never thought of it. I decided to ask Jason about it that night.

Well, later that day we were on our way to Fredericton to go shopping and he looks at me out of the blue and says: "You know what name I've been thinking about a lot lately? Olivia!" Of course I'm thinking he heard Janice and I talking on the phone, because he had just been out in the yard and could have come in the house without me knowing... So, I'm like "Shut up! You heard us talking didn't you?"

He had no idea what I was talking about. We both came up with that name on the same day independantly. Well, I had a little help on my part, but we never discussed it with each other. Kind of freaky, but it worked. We were both pretty much convinced from that point on that her name would be Olivia if she were a girl. We did have a backup name (Gillian) in case we changed our mind at the last minute, but we never even came close to using it.

But this time we just can't agree on anything. There are ones he likes that I think are "OK" and vice-versa but there aren't any that we both love! That's making it really hard this time around.

I'd really like to hear any stories any of you have about naming children. Like, how did you decide on the names and what were the other options etc...

By the way, there's no sense in commenting on the names in the title... they're all ones that we've decided NOT to use for one reason or another. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Olivia at 3 Months

This is one of my favourite pictures of Olivia. She was 3 months old when I took this. I just set up a cream coloured sheet on the floor and laid her on it with pink and white feather boas that I borrowed from a friend. There are a few other good ones too, but this is definitely the best one there is!

You may notice that the picture reads a little on the red side, but that's because of my scanner. Everything I scan ends up with a red tint to it. I've tried to correct it manually during the scanning process and afterwards, but it never turns out right. Hint: Epson scanners SUCK!

Links to songs and quotes!

I forgot to mention that I've recently set up my own putfile.com account for media storage... I've uploaded all the songs and movie quotes that I've posted about recently.

I've also edited all the older posts to include links to these songs. So, if you go back through the older posts called "Rock Star", "Hollywood or Bust..." (about American Idol) and "Favourite Movie quote?", you'll see that the songs and quotes are all linked to my putfile uploads.

You can listen to all the songs I was talking about. I even managed to find the sound clips online for the princess bride quotes I was talking about and have links to those as well, so you can now hear Mandy Patinkin saying his infamous line "Hello, My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father, prepare to die!" lol. I LOVE IT!!

Bad weekend (long post)

This was a really hard weekend here at our house. I'm not 100% sure what's going on, but here's what happened...

It started Thursday night at Olivia's normal bed time and we read one of her favourite stories and did the usual bedtime routines, but as soon as I shut her bedroom door she started screaming. And I mean screaming bloody murder. You'd swear that someone was trying to cut her fingers off or something... I went back up 2 or 3 times and as soon as I walked back in she was fine. This continued Friday and Saturday nights as well.

(of course, Jason was working night shift Friday, Saturday and Sunday so I had to go through this hell alone!)

Anyway, Friday night continued as Thrusday night did, HELL. And on Saturday she did this during her nap time as well before she fell asleep. At bedtime, after about an hour of dealing with this, I offered to leave her closet light on for her so she could see her story books and read. She's only got a VERY dim nightlight in her room. Not enough to light up room to any extent, just enough that I can BARELY see where I'm about to step on when I go in to check on her at night.

Well, once I left the light on she sat up there and read her stories and talked to her toys until 11:30pm, but she wasn't crying or screaming so I let it go. Before I went to bed I went up and turned off her closet light, thinking that this was over and done with now. She woke up around 2:30 am screaming again. So I went up to check on her and as soon as I turned on the closet light she calmed down. So, of course, I'm thinking that she's developed a fear of the dark. It seems strange for it to come on all of a sudden, but I'm not going to argue with what works. However, it does seem strange that she was screaming at Nap time as well, because there's enough light coming in around her blinds that there shouldn't be a "dark" issue at that time of day.

Anyway, Sunday at nap time was a bad one too, but after the screaming and crying fit ended (on her part and mine *lol*) she ended up sitting up there talking to herself until around 4pm when we went up to get her up... so, no nap. Sunday night she went right to sleep, no problems whatsoever. I did, however offer to leave the light on before we could go through this... so my theory that this was a fear of the dark related issue was "proven" in my mind, and I assumed that as long as we picked up a decent night light the next time we went to Fredericton that this would be done with.

Well, Monday at nap time came and she was right back to the screaming thing again. Again, she didn't nap at all but went right to sleep at her evening bedtime again... So, now we're wondering if she's just getting to the age when she's trying to give up naps altogether. It seems strange that until Thursday night she was fine with napping. But the nights we had the worst time were the days she napped, and the days she didn't nap at all were the ones when she went right to sleep at night without fussing.

I'd almost rather it was the scared of the dark thing, becasue with a new baby coming in less than 2 months, I need her to be napping now more than ever. This means that I won't be able to rest at all during the day when the baby is sleeping.

One of the other things I don't understand is the screaming thing. She's skipped naps before. She sometimes just sits in her room playing and talking with her teddy bears and reading her books for her entire nap time. I've never tried to force her to sleep if she's not tired. She just needs a quiet "rest" time sometimes. So, to go from doing that to the whole screaming bloody murder thing all of a sudden seems strange.

I don't know.... Oh well, there's not much I can do about it now. Just hope the screaming stops soon one way or the other. I don't think I can handle her acting like this when the baby arrives!

Favorite MOVIE Quote?

What is your all-time favorite quote from a movie?

Well, I'd have to choose the movie "The Princess Bride" It may not have the most thought provoking quotes or the best... But most of them are just FUN...

I've got a few favourites from the movie...

The first one is from the character Inigo (wonderfully performed by Mandy Patinkin - who currently plays Gideon on Criminal Minds and before that played Rube on Dead Like Me) It's one of those quotes that doesn't make a lot of sense to those who haven't seen the movie. Inigo says this about a dozen times during the course of movie. And it's just so much fun to say!! Especially if you try and use the same accent as Inigo.

Inigo: “Hello, My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die.”
Listen to this quote. (my favourite!)

The next is from the character Westley (performed by Carey Elwes who was also in Robin Hood Men in Tights just a few years later... He was also recently seen in Saw, and Ella Enchanted)

Westley to Buttercup: “This is true love... you think this happens everyday?”
Listen to this quote.

The Third quote from the movie is both Westley and Buttercup and it's acutally quite a nice quote... (Buttercup was performed by Robin Wright (Penn) who was also in Forrest Gump (Jenny), and in Message in a Bottle during the '90s)

Westley: “I told you I would always come for you. Why didn't you wait for me?”
Buttercup: “Well, you were dead!”
Westley: “But death cannot stop true love...All it can do is delay it for a while.”
Listen to this quote.

Anyway, those are my choices... what are your favourite MOVIE quotes...

Hollywood or Bust...

In honour of the newest season of American Idol the question today is:
If you were trying out for American Idol, would you be going to Hollywood or would they laugh in your face as they booted you out the door?

And most importantly, what song would you sing in our audition?

I'd definitely be booted out. I'm pretty much tone deaf when it comes to my own singing. Which sucks because I LOVE to sing. For song choice, this week I'd probably choose 'Sinnerman' by Nina Simone. It's one of the songs that I've been playing over and over lately... By next week I'll probably have a different answer.

Some other options would be:
- 'Dream On' by Aerosmith (If I could hit those super high notes near the end)
- 'Moondance' by Van Morrison
- 'Rhiannon' or 'Dreams' by Fleetwood Mac...
- 'Unsuccessfully Coping with the Natural Beauty of Infidelity' by Type O Negative. That way I'd know that I wouldn't get made fun of on TV since they couldn't air me singing that song...

(For those that don't know it the chorus is "I Know you're F***ing someone else!!!" Over and over again... It also includes the Lead singer calling his ex-girlfriend a "B*tch, Sl*t, C*nt and Who*e" several times... There's no way I'd get aired singing that one. They'd have to bleep more than they could show! lol)

There's also a song by Keltic Cowboys called 'Kiss My Irish Ass' that might be a good option to sing to Simon as they laughed me out the door. lol I originally thought it was by Great Big Sea, because the person who emailed it to me had it labeled as being by them, but I've recently gotten a comment from the lead singer of Keltic Cowboys -- Frank Mackey. He's informed me of my error. My appologies to Frank and the rest of the group for getting this wrong in the first place! Now that I've listened to it again with this in mind, it sounds nothing like Alan Doyle singing... which I should have noticed before, but didn't. Still, it is a GREAT song!!

What about you?? What would you sing and would you get to Hollywood? (or in the case of Canadian Idol would you get to Toronto?)

Some (but not all) blinkies adopted from:

Others found randomly around the net and put here to use for my own nefarious purposes! Muahahahaha. (*J/K*)
